The City of Parramatta lies 24 kilometres west of Sydney’s Central Business District (CBD) at the heart of the Greater Sydney Metropolitan Region.

Recognised as Sydney’s second CBD, Parramatta is also the sixth largest CBD in Australia and the economic capital of Western Sydney, Australia’s fastest growing region.

Parramatta City Council have a budget of $127 million and its 700 employees provide services and programs to Parramatta’s 151,860 residents which in turn help the city grow and become a more attractive place to live.

The Challenge

Parramatta City Council have their HR data stored across multiple sources. This prevented them from creating unified visual representations of their data without manual intervention.

These manual processes were not only time-consuming but also required constant communication between multiple staff in order to avoid inconsistencies.

In addition, whilst Parramatta City Council line managers had access to view and create reports based on leave liability, turnover and headcount via an online portal, the process was complex and required them to have expertise specific to functions within the HR system.

The Solution

After reviewing several available solutions Parramatta City Council selected OrgPlus Professional.

The OrgPlus Professional suite was purchased in August 2008 and was up and running quickly, successfully integrating their multiple data sources.

In addition, Navigo’s local professional-services team delivered end user training to help bring key people up to speed with OrgPlus’ features and benefits.

The Results

Since investing in OrgPlus Parramatta City Council have been able to visually represent their organisational data with ease.

Now enabled with a unified representation of HR data, they are able to produce organisational charts that assist with problem solving activities, identify where staff have been deployed, and also identify current staff vacancies – all with the click of a button.

They could also represent their liability, turnover and headcount information via organisational charts, using conditional-formats to highlight problem areas.

With OrgPlus Professional, the council is able to both deliver detailed PDF documents to line managers, while at the same time delivering an always-current organisational chart to every employee via their intranet.
